Galactic Ecosystems
and Chemical Complexity
We investigate how chemical complexity emerges.
evolves, and is sustained within galactic ecosystems.
Our goal is to develop models that link the physical
processes, matter cycles, and energetic environments
of galaxies to the formation of complex molecules,
prebiotic chemistry, and the conditions for life.

Key Research Questions
1. Origin and Distribution

How do galaxies produce, distribute,
and recycle the chemical elements
and complex molecules necessary
for planetary and biological systems?
2. Chemical Complexity
What physical and chemical
processes drive the formation
and evolution of complex and
prebiotic molecules in different
galactic environments?
3. Connection to Life

How do galactic chemical
ecosystems influence the
emergence and distribution
of life-bearing environments
across cosmic time?
Research Approach

Galactic and Multiscale Modeling
Integrate physical, chemical, and
dynamical processes across scales
from molecular clouds to galaxies.
Astrochemical Networks
Model the formation and
evolution of complex molecules
under realistic galactic
conditions.
Observational and Computational
Analysis
Use astronomical observations
and simulations to test models
and explore chemical complexity
across cosmic environments.
Current Status and Collaboration

In the current phase, we are developing
galactic chemical evolution models and
prototypes to explore the emergence
of complex molecules.
